Why I Want to Study Software Engineering
When I was a very young child, we had an old Commodore 64 in our basement that my brother would use to load up games with colorful visuals and fun music. It was immensely fascinating to me. I wasn’t old enough to understand how to use the computer at all, but I can still remember sitting next to him and watching him play games. When I was a few years older, we got a PC with Windows 95 on it. And this time I was old enough to figure out how to launch and play games on my own. My brother would come home from school and show me new things that he had learned in his high school computer class. As a child, computers were a huge part of my life.
As I have grown to become an adult, computers have become an even bigger part of everyone’s lives. The internet has become a crucial tool of humanity. Business and banking done without leaving your office, information being sent half-way around the world in less than a second. In fact, it doesn’t even need to be done from an office anymore. Anything can be done from almost anywhere, with a device that lives in your pocket. I still find myself incredibly intrigued by this technology that we live with and most of us take for granted.
I want to be the architect that designs these bridges that allow us to virtually traverse oceans in an instant. I want to be be working with computers, creating and building the technology behind the infrastructure of the digital age. The internet is still very young. There’s still a huge amount of new and exciting ways to use it. I want to be there, making it happen.
